Kanipakam Vinayaka Temple (Andhra Pradesh)

History

The Sacred Kanipakam Vinayaka Temple is one of the most revered Shrines of Lord Shree Ganesha in South India. It is located in the small village of Kanipakam near Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. The Temple is famous for its self-manifested (Swayambhu) Idol of Lord Shree Ganesha, which is believed to be growing in size day by day.

According to legend, three brothers who were physically challenged (one was dumb, one was deaf, and one was blind) were digging a well to fetch water. While digging, their tool struck a hard stone, and suddenly, blood started gushing out of the well. The stream of blood filled the entire well, and the brothers were instantly cured of their disabilities.

The villagers realized the Divine presence and soon discovered the Idol of Lord Shree Ganesha inside the well. The Idol is still enshrined there, and even today, water from the well surrounds the Sacred Idol. Devotees strongly believe that Lord Shree Ganesha here removes sins and fulfills wishes, hence the Temple is also known as Varasiddhi Vinayaka Temple.
