Shree Ganesh Ji, also lovingly called Vighnaharta (Remover of Obstacles), is one of the most worshipped and beloved deities in Sanatan Dharma. Recognized instantly by His elephant head and round belly, He symbolizes wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings.
Before starting any auspicious event, devotees invoke Shree Ganesh Ji, for He is the harbinger of success and protector from negativity. He is the first to be worshipped in every puja, yagna, or spiritual ceremony.
Lord Ganesha’s most iconic feature—His elephant head—carries profound symbolism and a fascinating story of love, sacrifice, and Divine Will. This sacred tale reveals how the remover of obstacles was born and blessed with His unique form, becoming the most adored Deity in Hindu tradition.
Once, Maa Parvati created a boy from sandalwood paste to guard Her while She bathed. When Lord Shiva arrived, the boy, unaware of who He was, stopped Him at the door. Angered, Shiva severed the boy’s head in battle. Seeing Maa Parvati’s grief, Shiva promised to restore the child’s life. The first head found was that of a wise and strong elephant, which was then placed upon the boy’s body. Thus was born Lord Ganesha, the beloved son of Shiva and Parvati, the Lord of Wisdom, Prosperity, and New Beginnings.
Lord Ganesha is not only the remover of obstacles but also the embodiment of eternal wisdom. Across scriptures and folklore, countless stories highlight His intelligence, wit, and profound understanding of Dharma.
The Race Around the World
When asked to compete with His brother Kartikeya, who would circle the world the fastest, Ganesha humbly circled His parents—Shiva and Parvati—saying, “They are my entire world.” His wisdom won Him the race.
The Scribe of the Mahabharata
Sage Vyasa chose Ganesha to write the Mahabharata. With patience and brilliance, Ganesha agreed—on the condition that Vyasa would never pause in dictation. This shows His discipline, devotion, and unmatched intelligence.
The Modak of Knowledge
The Modak sweet, dear to Lord Ganesha, symbolizes the bliss of true knowledge and spiritual awakening.
